James Gunn has debunked a ‘leaked’ Superman costume photo ahead of the release of his upcoming Clark Kent blockbuster.
The director took to social media to critique the faked image, which appeared to depict Superman lead actor David Corenswet being photographed in costume as the new Man of Steel.
“Let’s see. Can the man on the left take a photo holding an amorphous black bob while looking through an eyeball on the front of his cap?” Gunn wrote on Threads, in response to someone asking if he could confirm whether the photo was real or fake.
“Can the man on the right’s torso grow out of his right hip and can he be stupid enough to wear his pants with the drawstring in the back?

“Are David Corenswet’s hands made of wax without any bones or veins? And might Superman’s trunks be knitted with yarn?
“Ask yourself these questions and I’m certain you’ll be able to answer the question on your own.”
Gunn shared the news last summer that Corenswet would play Superman in in the upcoming film, alongside Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan — who will become The Daily Planet’s ace reporter Lois Lane.
The director also recently announced a title change to the anticipated DC blockbuster, confirming that the movie will just be called Superman.
It had previously been announced as Superman: Legacy.
“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn wrote on Instagram.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”
The film’s stacked cast also includes The Righteous Gemstones’ Skyler Gisondo, Crisis star Sara Sampaio, The Suicide Squad’s Nathan Fillion, Twilight’s Edi Gathegi and X-Men’s Nicholas Hoult.
Madame Web’s Isabela Merced, The Authority’s María Gabriela de Faría, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Sean Gunn and Suits star Wendell Pierce are also set to appear in the blockbuster.
Superman premieres in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
